Samsung is the largest conglomerate group in South Korea. Hyundai Motor is South Korea's second largest conglomerate group. Samsung is focused on the sales of electronics products such as smart phones and semiconductors. Hyundai Motor Group is focused on sales of automotive products.
I compared the size of revenues between the two groups recently, from 2004 to 2015. It is not accurate because I use only the listed companies. consolidated listed companies were excluded. And it must belong to the current group.

You can see Samsung had significant high growth during 2012~2013. can you estimate it? yeah, it is because of Smart phone. Samsung catched up Apple well and then get big growth of smart phone.

Samsung Group has many finance companies like a Samsung Life Insurance, Samsung Fire Insurance, Samsung Card, Samsung Securities. However Hyundai has only HMC Securities which is very small than Samsung's finance Dept. So I compared two Groups without finance companies.

there was no significant gap between Samsung and Hyundai Motors 10 years ago. then there was gap during 2012~2013 because of smart phone. smart phone is big changer not only world but also this gap. But the gap has been faded out.

I think the gap will be zero in two years, because Yen currency will be appreciated. This is a favorable business environment for Hyundai.

On the other hand, Samsung semiconductor market is unfavorable business environment is so bad.
However, Samsung is preparing the biotechnology industry. If Samsung do well successfully in the biotechnology industry, after the next few years, the gap between the two groups is expected to take place again
